Summer Is Here
Summer has settled in. Schedules are full, vacations are underway, and for Dean and me, summer is a time to take a long motorcycle ride with friends.
We always have a destination and a planned route, but we've learned to leave plenty of room for the unexpected. Wildfires, storms, a winding road, or a beautiful scenic overlook can easily alter our plans. We may know where we're headed, but we've learned to stay flexible along the way.
Motorcycle travel naturally requires more stops than traveling by car, and just like the journey itself, we've learned not to rush them. They become an opportunity to refill our tanks, hydrate, reconnect, and prepare for whatever the next stretch of the road brings.
We've also learned that who you travel with matters. We have a core group of friends who share the same respect for safety and riding. Over the years we've welcomed others into that circle. Some became riding friends, while others reminded us how important it is to travel with people who share your values.
Some of my favorite parts are:
The scenery.
The freedom.
Feeling completely immersed in nature.
The conversations along the way.
The shared adventures.
Riding together also requires us to work as a team. We have to communicate our needs and boundaries in a way the other can receive, trust each other to take responsibility for themselves while also watching out for one another, and recognize when it's time to slow down or take a break.
Dean and I work well together once we get into the groove, but it doesn't always start that way. Whenever I tell friends we're working on a project together, someone inevitably asks, "How's that going to go?"
I usually smile and say, "Once we get through the first three hours of intense negotiation, we work really well together as loving partners."
I can't help but think...isn't that life?
Trust.
Communication.
Knowing our limits.
Being willing to stretch them when it's appropriate.
Knowing who we want beside us for the journey.
It also makes me wonder... Where are the boundaries that help you feel safe? Which of those are non-negotiable? Where might life be inviting you to lean in just a little?
These are the kinds of questions we've been exploring around the horses, and they're the questions that inspired this fall's Returning to Yourself series.
Returning to Yourself
There is something powerful that happens when people gather around horses—not to compare, compete, or perform—but to witness one another with honesty, kindness, and compassion.
Around horses, something shifts.
We slow down.
We become more honest.
We begin remembering what it feels like to simply be ourselves.
That's the heart behind this fall's Returning to Yourself series. Each experience explores a different part of that journey.
Women & Boundaries offers women an opportunity to explore how healthy boundaries create deeper relationships, greater peace, and the freedom to show up as their whole selves.
Early Bird registration is available through July 31 using coupon code EARLYBIRD.
Embracing Life's Seasons of Change welcomes anyone navigating change, uncertainty, or a new chapter. Together we'll explore how honoring the season you're actually living creates greater clarity, resilience, and peace.
When We Listen welcomes anyone who is curious about slowing down and listening more deeply. Through five experiential sessions with horses, we'll explore what your body already knows, what your intuition has been whispering, and what becomes possible when you learn to trust yourself again.

As you enjoy these summer days, I hope you find moments to pull over, refill your own tank, and notice what life is asking of you right now. Thank you for allowing me to walk alongside you on your journey.
With Gratitude,
Kathy Shepard
