The Gift of Slowing Down

Jun 1
3 min read

If you're anything like me, May probably felt like a whirlwind.

Graduations, end-of-school activities, extended holiday weekends, vacations, schedule changes... sometimes it feels like we arrive in June already feeling a little behind.

One of my favorite parts of the work I do is spending time at the ranch with the horses. Every visit reminds me that life doesn’t have to be so complicated.

The horses aren't concerned about appearances or trying to prove themselves. They take care of their needs, respond honestly, settle disagreements quickly, and return to simply being together.

Each time I leave the ranch, I feel calmer, more grounded, more grateful, and more present. Maybe that's the real gift.

I am filled with gratitude for the owners of Due West Ranch, who so generously allow me to partner with these amazing horses and share their wisdom with others.

As I was thinking about all of this, I realized this week would have been my father's 87th birthday. This year also marks ten years since his passing.

There are moments when I miss him tremendously. Yet alongside that grief is a deep gratitude that I was blessed to have him in my life for as long as I did. Over the years, I've learned that gratitude doesn't erase the ache of missing someone. It simply allows love and loss to exist side by side.

That feels a lot like the changing seasons.

Some seasons ask us to celebrate, others ask us to let go or rest. Each one offers gifts if we're willing to notice them.

That was the heart behind our recent Embracing Life's Seasons of Change workshop.

Participants explored the gifts and challenges of each season and discovered that they can be living in different seasons at the same time.

One area of life may feel full of new beginnings while another is asking us to let go.

Stormy, Sadie, and Gigi offered beautiful lessons along the way, helping participants explore friendship, healthy boundaries, and the power of being fully present.

It was a wonderful day of learning, reflection, and connection.

I'll be offering Embracing Life's Seasons of Change again this fall for those who couldn't join us this time.

Individual Coaching

Sometimes the season we're in calls for more than reflection—it calls for support.

Whether you're navigating a life transition, grief, relationship challenges, or simply feeling uncertain about what's next, coaching offers a space to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect.

Working together often begins with a simple conversation. From there, we can discuss what comes next, whether a workshop, traditional coaching, and, when the time is right, one-on-one Equus coaching.

You don't have to navigate life's changing seasons alone.

Upcoming Gathering

Women & Boundaries

August 28, 2026

If you often find yourself giving so much to others that your own needs come last, this workshop is for you.

Healthy boundaries are not about building walls—they're about creating clarity, respect, and a deeper sense of connection.

Together with the horses, you'll discover how boundaries show up in your life through guided experiences, reflection, and connection—insights you can carry into your everyday relationships.

Because this is an intimate, experiential workshop, space is limited.

I’ll also be offering additional Equine experiences this fall.  You can find current and upcoming opportunities on my website KnHcoaching.com, and I’ll continue sharing new offerings in future newsletters.

Looking for something a little different?  I love partnering with teams, organizations, businesses and groups of friends to create personalized experiences designed around your unique goals.

If you’ve been thinking about bringing people together for a meaningful experience, I’d love to start that conversation.

May you find a few moments this month to slow down.

With Gratitude,

Kathy Shepard
